CHESS The Musical

Current members of John Jay High School’s Proscenium theater organization, alumni, and adults will stage a major production of CHESS The Muscial on January 15th and 16th, 2011. Two major corporations and private donations are underwriting production expenses, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Hudson Valley.

With lyrics by Tim Rice (The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, Aida) and music by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of ABBA, CHESS is a rock musical set during the cold war about a romantic triangle between two top players, an American and a Russian, and a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other.

The cast includes alumni Graeme McEneany as the Freddie, a surprise guest as Anatoly, Nicole Trepiccione as Florence, Amanda Spinella as Svetlana, Doug Hansen as the Arbiter, and Jake Teed as Alexander Molokov. Other alumni participating in the production include: Will Hansen, Jason Lyons, Bonnie Lawrence, Rachel Hill, Nathaniel Barber, Carrie Colodner, Andrew McCarthy, Sean Finlay, Alex Baycora, Sean Devine, Preston Briggs, Karen Donato, Kyle Muller, Mike Birmingham, Troy Atkinson, Peter Marinaro, and many more. The production will also include an adult choir featuring the talents of voice and music teachers Antonella Delli Carpini, Shannon Banda, The John Jay Chamber Choir, Bonnie and Matt King, Joanne Fenton, and Andrea Buergers.

Make-A-Wish provides an opportunity for children who face the difficult challenges of life-threatening illnesses to have a special dream come true. The gift of a wish offers a welcome respite from hospitals and treatment centers, providing the child with a time of hope, laughter and joy. In addition, the families of these beautiful children will have memories of a time during the illness of the child that focus on a positive experience. Over the past 24 years, the Hudson Valley Chapter has granted more than 1,800 wishes for children in our region of eight counties in the lower Hudson Valley.

Leading up to the show, Proscenium is planning many special events including participating in the East Fishkill Community Day on September 11th where Make-A-Wish items will be available for purchase and hosting a “Halloween Haunt” benefit concert with local band “Don’t Look Down” and featuring the Illusions of Ryan Dutcher at John Jay High School on October 29th.

Tickets for CHESS The Musical are $15. A Dessert Reception will be held prior to both performances. These tickets are $25 and inclue both the reception and premium seating in "director’s row" (Row M). Dessert Reception tickets are limited to 45 tickets per performance.
